We made recent stops to a couple of those places we have passed by saying "we should check that place out".
The first was Reed's Antiques, Rt 1 (1773 Post Rd) Wells, Maine. Reed's is an antique co-op with multiple vendors. The outside of the shop was non-descript but we were pleasantly surprised by the inside. It was bigger than expected, very clean, and well-lit with wood all around. Checking its social media, it looks like it was renovated in 2016, unfortunately they don’t seem to have a current presence other than a few mixed reviews. We enjoyed our time there because of the variety of the many vendors. This is one of those shops where you don't mind when you haven't found anything to buy because it has fun, quality items to peruse. For sale - a unique small ceramic Christmas tree that doubled as a lighter and a Russell Stover sign (reminds me of my dad, who always had a box next to his chair <3). The staff was very nice but check-out was very slow. No bathroom available. Credit cards yes. Open daily 10 - 5.
Our second stop was “Outta the Box, 8 York Street Kennebunk. We had seen this shop while stopped at the traffic light by the Dairy Queen. Don't take the Route 1 bypass or you will miss it. Turn left into the parking lot at the lights, the shop is at the front of the building. Outta the Box is a thrift shop, "an inexpensive place to shop for trendy, offbeat & chic clothing and household wares" that supports a local school, The New School. At first glance it appears small, but it is not, it has lots of different areas - books, crafts, kitchen ware, linens, clothing…and very reasonable prices. Well worth a visit! For sale lovely gold Lily of the Valley glasses. No bathroom available, staff was friendly and helpful. Credit cards yes. Open daily 9 - 4.
Bathroom tip - look for Dunkin Donuts, plentiful in Maine, they always have clean bathrooms.
