Worth a Day Trip Thrifting

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

A trip up the New England coast is a fun thrifting opportunity. We made these stops this weekend -

The Family Salvation Army Store in Portsmouth, NH has a large collection of clothing, lots of books and housewares. The turnover is fast here. Spotted nearby was a full size stuffed bear drinking a coffee!

Antiques USA and Arundel Antiques in Arundel Maine are next to each other on Route 1. In the summer there are vendors who set up outside. Yesterday, January 7, there were a couple of die hard vendors selling and keeping warm by their fire pit. A drive up the coast is worth it just for these 2 stores. Also spotted here - a working phone booth with a note "Do not call 911". Found some beautiful handkerchiefs here!

Safe Haven Humane Society Thrift Shop in Wells, Maine is always worth a stop. This thrift shop not only has a large variety of items it also supports Safe Haven’s mission to provide sanctuary for abused, abandoned and unwanted felines. They have a beautiful chandelier on display and signs that caution visitors "don't let the cats out". The cashier commented on the beauty of the handkerchiefs I found and wanted to know what I do with them. I explained that I add sea glass and make bridl hankies, she loved that idea.

Anytime Antiques, Wells Maine is full of products but most interesting is a booth of cookie jars and some very nice reloved furniture. Cash only so be prepared!

Below are a few of the fun things we saw in our travels...
